Avenue4’s soon-to-be-released State of the IPv4 Market Report sheds light on market forces underlying the IPv4 market’s roller coaster ride in 2016 plus meet Avenue4 this week at NANOG 69 in Washington, DC.

The IPv4 market experienced dramatic change in 2016.  Later this month, Avenue4 will be releasing its 2016 State of the IPv4 Market Report, which sheds light on the market forces that stimulated its twists and turns, evaluates the effect of IPv6 deployments on the market, and presents some key takeaways for market participants to consider over the next 12 months.  Here are a few of the highlights:

  • The IPv4 market experienced a “triple double” of sorts. The number of transactions in the ARIN region more than tripled and the mid-large block pricing almost doubled.
  • The /16 block established itself as the go-to size for even the large block buyers.
  • The Inter-RIR market showed some muscle, accounting for nearly 25% of all transferred numbers in and out of the ARIN region.
  • IPv4 market supply seemed nearly dried up … until it wasn’t, rebounding the last half of 2016 with volumes nearly 2 ½ times the volumes transferred in the first half of the year.

In our 2015 annual report, we made 5 predictions for 2016.  How did we do?  A perfect 5 out 5! For more details on these developments and more, stay tuned.

In the meantime, we’ll be at NANOG 69 in Washington DC this week with some exciting news to share.  Please stop by our table Tuesday morning to learn more.
