“The story is by no means over for IPv4 right now”
--Geoff Huston, Author and APNIC’s Chief Scientist
Criticizing a call for the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to declare IPv4 “Historic” – a move that would send the message that its time to move on to IPv6 - Geoff Huston, Author and APNIC’s Chief Scientist, countered that “reports of [IPv4’s] demise are severely exaggerated!”
“I'm pragmatic enough to understand that we are stuck with a dual stack Internet for many years to come,” he wrote, noting that the IPv4 internet may be stretched to accommodate “20 billion or so devices” before its sun truly sets.
